squeaking sound when cold. 147.

hi All,

I've noticed that for the first time when i start my car early in the morning(abt 25c), i can hear squeaking sound. Much like a cricket making some noises . My initial thought would be the air-cond compressor kicking in, but apparently, it's not. I still hear the sound even without the air-cond turn on.

Once the engine is properly warmed up, the sound disappears. Is this something i should be worried abt ? or it's kinda normal ?

so far, the car behaves well... once it's fully warmed up, everything is very smooth. power delivery... engine doesn't sound coarse.

thanks for your feedback.

Check the auxilarry belts are not slipping when cold.
Misalignment of the aircon compressor also can cause this .

I have the same problem on mine! Sounds like a cricket of gigantic proportions to me, but I also get it when it's not -25C, but then it just sounds like a cricket stuck there for a minute or so.

However the noise when starting in -25C sounds more like someone rattling a wrench inside the engine block... Valves maybe? Using 10W40 as said..

It's the camshaft variator.. that makes that noise.. Alfa Dealers have the modification for it.. however to arrange this incl. all labour fees it would cost round about 500Euro

a high pitched noise is usually the aux belt either because it is damp, or not correctly tensioned, or becasue one or more of the pulleys on the belt are out of alignment so the sidewall of the belt catches on the wall of the pulley. best thing to do is inspect the belt's condiiton & tension, and make sure it is ont in contact with any pulley walls. if in doubt change the aux belt.
