A while back I bought some Infinity 6500 speakers and I posted a thread about the fitment of the woofers and tweeters. Back October time.
Sunday, I finally started fitting them, and got stuck but in a good way.
To fit the tweeters you have to remove the interior door handle trim , (there is a screw behind ,very hard to remove blanking plug). Then, unclip the speaker connection and the whole thing is in your hand.
Next, unscrew the old tweeter and remove it (takes a quarter turn you,ll see some alinement arrows). Then, carefully ping back the edges of the metal speaker grill.
Very carefuly, with SHARP! craft knife or file remove the plastic part that holds the old speaker down to the more solid stepped part. Now, turn the trim around till you are looking at it from inside the car.
Here , you`ll see the three slots that held the metal grill and very helpfully a slight score mark or indentation joining the edges of the slots. Cut very carefully all the plastic which will widen the hollow by about 3/4 mm.
This hole is large enough and tight enough to take the screw threaded part from the Infinity speaker set without the large knurled nut. With the tweeter fitted it looks very similar to standard fit with a discreat silver trim. The tweeter is still adjustable.
I would suggest buying new trims (v. cheap) as they scratch very easily , if you`re not too handy with tools .
But it does look very neat . I'll try to post some pics a.s.a.p.
