Another year passes ...

Yes, it's that time again when I sweat it out ... no not the World Cup ....

... sitting at the garage waiting for the verdict ... MOT pass or fail!?!

Anyway this year, pass again!!! Sweet!!! Not bad for just over 146K and 11 1/2 years of relatively hard use. Put just under 12K on the clock last year mainly due to business miles! Still the profit has paid for the upkeep ...

During the year the 156 had new rear transverse arms including new lower strut mounting bolts, new rear droplinks, a new o/s upper wishbone and mounting bolt, new exhaust centre pipe and replacement silencer I picked up FOC ages ago with new mounting rubbers, and four new Dunlop SP Maxx tyres.

Everything went well except the emissions test. Took three goes to pass with Lambda and CO close to upper limit. I guess that NGK is finally on its last legs ... pity as the MPG is really good at the moment but that may mean it is running far to lean. So when the old one decides to part company with the exhaust pipe, I'll replace it with the Bosch Universal Lambda that's been sitting on the bench for nearly a year!

They didn't mention anything about the suspension or steering, so I'll have to try and trace the knocking myself. I'm down to a/r bar or front struts ... both of which are probably well beyond they working life ...

It does mean that the other jobs are now not so urgent: fit Powerflex rear hub bushes, Goodridge brake hoses, probably new front shocks and a/r bar, a/c condenser, skirts and lots of cosmetic work. Will probably change the rad as this one is showing signs of dying (higher water temps) and I may swap out the steering rack while the subframe is down and sort out the steering fluid leak near the cooling tube. Also want to change the supports inside the wing area and the undertray is shot now thanks to reversing in the snow in January!! And a 4-wheel alignment check is well overdue.

The list goes on and on and on .....

cheers, Gary
