I suspect big end failure on my 1.9JTD (8V).
Noisy rattle/knock under load, slight tinkly noise on startup. I get a sharp noise like a spun bearing on load in second (could be turbo/boost.. but it's load releated not rpm/boost ie. I can sit and rev her throught the range and she's silent apart from turbo spool and normal derv rattle).
This all started after an oil change.. should have left the old stuff in eh.
Only other mitigating factor is a clutch change 3 months ago.. mechanic was sloppy and left lots of things undone (wheel nuts!!, eger, maf, reverse lights).. unfortunatley the noise just doesn't sound like anything to do with the driveline to me. There's a definite knock in there.
In anycase i'm changing the oil right now to look for tell tale glitter nasties.
I did a bit of research last night on ePer to see what parts i might need and discovered that the 1.9JTD(8V), 1.9JTD(16V) and 2.0TS share the same part numbers for big ends (anybody)?
There are six relevant part numbers in Eper for big ends (different sizes for crankshft size/regrind etc no doubt). That said, they're grouped into two two sets of three. Half-Bearing Couple & Half-Bearing TOR.
Has anybody done this, or does anybody know the difference between these sets (other than size).. what's a TOR?
This is important to me as i've brought this car from the UK to Australia with me. The 1.9JTD(8V) was never available here.. so AlfaAust. just stares at me when I request partnumbers asks for my VIN and then "says computer says no".. if the parts are indeed shared with the 1.9(16V), then i'm sweet as that engine is available here (in the last 147's and then 159s).
in anycase, all comments -pictures, anecdotes appreciated.
