re circulate air flap

hi all,
bear with me as not sure how to explain this.
was changing my pollen filter (156 s/wagon) when noticed the flap under the filter was wide this right?
i took the fan out the bottom to see if i could close the flap, which i can. but i cant see any way in which it would open again.

can someone explain how it opens and closes? or have i somehow managed to bugger it up?

cheers kev

To test the movement of the flap, I think the correct thing to have done would have been to press the recirculate button on your air conditioning controls. You didn't mention the year - on the models after 2002, it's a button on the rightmost of the three knobs, and I have a feeling it's on the rightmost knob on the earlier ones too.

Then you should see that flap closing, then (of course) opening when you turn recirculate off.

I think the flap positions are reset and self-learned when you disconnect/reconnect the battery, so if it no longer seems to respond, try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

Good luck...

hi thanks for reply,
sorry should have said i did try pressing the recirculate button. this didnt seem to do anything. im just wondering if the flap has been forced open and this might have damaged the mechanism that moves the flap? to be honest i couldnt actually see any mechanism connected to the flap that would move it.

ill try disconnecting the battery and see what that does
