Well as a current (but soon to be ex-Civic Type R owner) I took the plunge and test drove a 147 selespeed at the weekend.....Abosolutley gorgeous!!!
Although had to laugh because my opening conversation with the dealer started with "I've always been wary of Alfas becasue of the number of electrical problems they seem to have" and he assured me that things are very good on that front with the 147. And would you believe it, during a demo of the satellite navigation the whole stereo locked up and couldn't be switched off no matter what we tried..ended up having to disconnect the battery! lol
But have to say the car was gorgeous and I told him if it was still there when I sell my Type R I'd go for it.
I too sold my Type R for a 147 (2.0 Manual). Basically I loved the Honda to bits, but as I used it as a company car, found running costs too high (ie £300 of rubber on the front every 6k, 200 miles on a tank, £100 per month to insure etc.. etc..) I eventually decided to go for the manual over the selespeed.
I still miss the power of the R a lot and as my 147 has the 17" supersport alloys, the noise in the cabin is almost as "refined" as the Honda !!(has the same tyres - Bridgestone Potenzas!)
Still on the whole I'm a lot happier with the Alfa, - the wife likes it more, people dont want to race me all the time, and the image is a lot better.
yep exactly the same situation here, only I can't seem to shift my Type R so can't get my 147 :-( Have to say I love the level of toys and refinement in the cabin compared to the Type R...Getting very impatient...want one now!!! lol
Yep, done the same thing myself, but had no response in 3 weeks. Mines Red, 51 plate, 52000 Miles, full Honda service history, 4 brand new Pirellis and a £500 Alpine head unit and speakers going for £11000....Pretty much the cheapest Type R on Auto Trader!
£10500????? I wish! The most an Alfa dealer has offered me in P/X is £7500!!!
Looking to buy nearly new (i.e. up to 6 months)
They're totally taking the p155!
Take it to a Honda dealer, they'd definately give you £10k for it!
I bought my 147 at Motorhouse in Cannock. It's a 53 plate 5 dr with Leather & 17" alloys - £12,500! - you could always give them a bell to see what they'll offer you for the R.
If you want to check them out go to www.motorhouse2000ltd.co.uk
Yeah I thought they were too. problem is all the dealers seem to be referring to the same "maximum profit" book of trade-in car values, so it's only Honda that give you a little bit more because they have to.
I couldn't do that to you, if you got my Type R you'd just be pining for the performance of the 214 too much and end up demanding to swap back. But by then I'll be hooked on the Rover and you'll never get it back, it will all get messy and probably end up in court. Just not worth the risk!
