Bad Key Code Transmitter Thing?

Hi all, did a big search but nothing with one good key, one bad.

2002 SSpeed 147.

OK, so one key works fine, the other key unlocks etc, but won't start the car - Immobiliz Failure - Key Code message comes on. All my own fault as in trying to replace the battery I dumbly took the key apart and put it back together. I was careful and it all seemed to go back together fine, no signs of bad solder joints or anything, all fairly new looking. But now no go.

Both black keys. (Didn't get a red key when I bought it, that a major drama?).

New key, or anything you can suggest?? I've taken it apart again twice, no luck.

Cheers in advance.

Sounds like you may have dislodged or lost the immobiliser chip, its seprate to the alarm circuit board, its either a black rectangle with the corner cut off or a glass bullet shape chip... If you have lost the chip hope its the second key and buy a second hand key swap the chip and take it to a dealer to get it recoded.

The best person to talk to about this is Chris (search his name) he is ZakSystems on

a very dirty car

All exactly as Biffa says but with one gotcha.
If you have lost the immobiliser chip it will be the glass tube type and you cannot get another 'coded'. You will have to buy a new key from Alfa.
A harsh and expensive lesson.

Lets hope you can find the immobiliser chip.

You're all complete legends. Found the glass tube under the sofa , put it in the little slot, and off it goes!!! Clever little transponder!

Many thanks for all your help, saved me a bundle just when I didn't need more expenses!
