Fuel Gauge reading - 2.0JTS 156

Reading the Manual, and checking out Jamie Porters www, I believe the fuel tank capacity to be 63 Ltrs (with 7 Ltrs as reserve)

When my fuel light comes on and the gauge is reading almost empty, (board computer telling me 100km remaining range) the maximum I can squeeze in at the pump (lots of full full full nozzle clicks) is 48 Ltrs

When I have filled the car, the gauge shows tip top full

Is this correct data, or is the gauge a little out ?
What do you think ?

They're usually more of a best-guess than an accurate reading.

It does however show that the computer telling you "100km remaining" is safe.
100km with the remaining Petrol works out to about 18mpg.

Having run out of petrol in my 156 the day I bought it - fuel gauge reading just slightly under 'full' due to a cut wire - I can tell you that just over 70 litres actually fits in the tank.

If the trip computer was still saying 100km range, there is doubtless quite a lot of petrol actually left. My trip computer says 0km range when I fill up. Usually about 58 litres fits in. Therefore there is probably about 12L remaining when the gauge and trip computer both say '0'. But who knows? The gauge certainly isn't going to tell you...

Now that I've made it work by fixing the cut wire, I find my fuel gauge works really smoothly due to the advanced averaging that it performs. The needle never fluctuates during cornering, going uphill/downhill, etc. which is a lot better than the gauges of my other cars. Instead it tends to take a big dive while the car is parked and the averaging is reset (at next switch-on, it reads a lot less )

I managed 1000km on a tank...
