Gearbox Exhaust Mount no longer available, What Now?

Hi guys

this is as much a warning as anything, but a valid question none the less...

i have a 2002 2.4 JTD, and the first exhaust support following the turbo is a huge metal bracket that attatches to the gearbox floor pillar mount, and contains a bonded rubber donut, through which a nut and bolt fixes the bracket to an exhaust hanger.

my rubber donut is about knackered, and about to detatch itself at any moment, and has been causing some knocking and clunks from underneath as the exhaust moves with engine torsion, so off i went to my Alfa agent, for a price and availability.

£28 ish plus the vat, i placed the order, only to discover today, that Alfa no longer list this part, and have discontinued it!!!!

This beggars belief, that parts are discontinued for a car thats not even 10 years old yet, and there are yonger versions than my 02 around aren't theyre!

Anyway, has anyone else had this rubber fail, and is it better to do away with it altogether, or lash something up as a permanent none flexing mount? (it is labeled as a "rigid mount" even though it has a rubber included)

Do you have the part number for it?

If it's 46470216, the same part is on the Fiat Marea (and Lancia Lybra)...

No i dont unfortunately.

ive just been under the car, disconneted it entirely, and it has made no difference to exhaust support whatsoever, now perhaps i know why they don't bother to supply it anymore, its useless! ha ha!

for now it will be staying off, and i'll monitor it, but there is a flexi joint immediately beyond it, and loads and loads of hangers and support following it, so its not going anywhere i'm sure.

still daft though eh?

Halfrauds sells various different shaped generic sort of replacements, maybe something there will work.

I thought manufacturers were obliged to supply parts for at least ten years? Or is that a myth?

10 years only a gentlemens agreement. Not worth the breath used to utter it. Mine's gone so will be trying to source a replacement via ePER.
