Help: Oil Pressure Problems 2.5 V6
About 6k miles ago I had to have my heads of my 2.5 V6 skimmed and gaskets replaced as a result of a failed water pump and burst radiator pipe. Belts etc were all done too. (that's the short version).
Problem 1: Lately I am getting an "Oil Pressure Low" warning on start up in the mornings and only briefly. It pops up on the central console for about a second and before the screen that says "turn engine off" comes up it together with the little oil an warning light between cluster disappears. Even if I shut the engine off immediately and restart, all is fine, no warning. It does not appear again until the next day even if I leave the car standing for 8 hours while at work.
Problem 2: It never used a drop of oil before but is now requiring a top up every two or three tanks of petrol. Another symptom that has popped up since the head work is that after the car is warmed up after having been driven if I park it and restart it a couple of minutes later I get a "tuck tuck tuck" noise from the top of the engine which then after about a second completely disappears. In the mornings when the engine is cold and oil is cool, it's dead silent. the noise only appears the engine has been warmed up.
I am wondering whether both problems could be related to oil type - it has a semi-synth 10W40 in - but a lot of guys in South Africa recommend a fully synth 10W60?
It's due to be dropped off at an indy tomorrow, but chatting with him yesterday he said he would just fill up with the10W40 he used the last time which is subsequently when these issues started to appear.
Am I totally off the mark, any ideas what it could be?
