Re: Help needed buying a new 156 Sportwage JTD
Welcome to AO!
I have a 2002 facelift 150bhp 2.4 'Wagon, and I love it. The engine is smooth, growly, and feels like a big low stressed normally aspirated engine. It pulls from tickover to 5000 and is as smooth as you like. I can only imagine the 175 is more of the same. I have driven the 140 1.9 in a 147 and was very disappointed in comparison. Certainly it was fast, but the way it went about it was not a patch on the big five pot. It drove like a small capacity four cylinder with the knackers boosted off it. Which it is. If you have ever driven the VW 1.9 TDi, you will know what I mean.
Neither are Euro4, so if you can, get the 2.4, in Veloce trim. The Lusso feels like a wallowing barge in comparison, but it does have a more comfortable ride.
That extra cylinder is worth the money without a shadow of a doubt just for the character and driving experience. Any extra power is simply a bonus.
