How much additional coolant did you need to add?
Have you checked the level again since you drove it?
Did you just add coolant or bleed the system properly?
Sounds likely filling up caused an air lock in the system, hence the high reading & noise.
Recheck the level and bleed air out (you should find full details of how to do this by searching on here), then see if it still overheats.
Check also for coolant losses - wet patch under car is always an indication
It is possible the water pump impeller is damaged and so isn't circulating coolant. If so, then a pump change is necessary. That will entail cambelt off and changed so you'll be looking at around £300-400.
That all assumes there's no further engine damage due to overheating.
You might also want to check the oil - both level and condition as this will have taken the brunt of the high temperatures. My inclination would be to change that as well, just to be sure.
