Alfa 156 clutch actuator issues

Hello, my Alfa 156 2.0 X reg sportwagon selespeed has the red gearbox flashing warning light. It will not drive past 2nd gear. Happened as I left home and I drove straight back no more than 1 mile. I have had it towed to a garage and they state lots of error codes so needs new actuator and bill will be £1650!! Reading some threads it appears that some doubt the need to change the actuator. Any one encountered this before or am I best to scrap.

I'm sure it can be fixed for a lot less than that. Entire actuators are usually only replaced by people who know nothing about the system!

Did they give you a list of error codes? That would help us give you advice.

Where are you? Someone nearby might be able to help you out...

One thing that'll put it in limp mode (1/2/R only) is the speed sensor, which in turn can be a symptom of a poorly gearbox.
