156 engine feels rough all of a sudden
wow it has been a long time since i've posted something on the forum.
after being alfaless for 2 years now, i bought a 2001 156 2.0TS last week, to use as an everyday car and help keep the mileage down on my audi.
it has 160,000km (100k miles) on it, full service history and has just had the cambelt, variator, balancer belt and all tensioners replaced.
the lower control arm bushes were badly warn and the car never got up to 90 on the temp gauge, so i replaced the control arms and the thermostat.
so now for my problem. when i got the car last week, the engine was fantastic. free revving, smooth and pulled well, exactly how i remember the engine in my ti. then last night on my way home i was pushing it a bit, and as i was accelerating past 6100rpm the engine suddenly had a vibration so i changed to the next gear. now from 3000rpm the engine has a vibration when accelerating and it isn't nearly as free revving as it was. and at about 5600rpm it gets really boomy and you don't want to rev it any higher as it sounds like it is straining. i drove it to the office this morning, which is about 30km from my house and it is running fine, but the vibration is still there and the car still doesn't rev as freely as it did.
when i got home last night i took off the cambelt cover to check if maybe the balancer belt had snapped, but it is still fine. also, at idle it is still quiet and there are no strange noises from the engine.
so i dunno now. any ideas what the problem could be?
if you have to ask, then you'll never understand.
