Checking oil on a 2.0TS

Hey all, this is probably going to make me sound thick but never mind. When i check the oil on my 156 (2.0TS) i take out the dipstick, wipe it clean, put it back in and if i pull it out straight away there is nothing on it. However if i leave it in for 30 secs and take it out, the oil is at a satisfactory level. Is this normal? and is there enough oil in the engine? All previous cars i've owned all it took was a quick dip and a wiggle to check the oil.

Hi, no not particulalry, engine was warm though. I checked it again today (it was a few weeks back when i checked it last, took be ages to post ) and i topped it up with a litre. It seems that only onse side of the dipstick reads reliably (whichever side is facing the engine when its put it) but i think i have figured it out now.

By the way, what is normal oil usage for this engine? it seems i might be using quite a bit

1l per 1000 km is whats 'acceptable' in the manual, in reality a normal car does not use nearly this much. mine hardly uses any.

what grade/type of oil are you using? search other oil threads to find whats best for the 2.0l TS, I think all 3 TS engines run on 10w40 semi synth, 10w60 is also ok.

topping up a litre is not good, you need to start checking it weekly at the moment. the TS engine doesn't like running down on oil, even slightly. keep it at the max level at all times.
