I suggest you call the dealer and place the proverbial foot to a$$ on the way to getting a full apology for the trouble caused, a free belt change and at least 1 yr warranty on the engine work. Either that or they give you a full refund and you walk away. If that doesn't work first time, write a good old fashioned letter to the dealer and CC ALFA SA customer service and wait for a week. Good luck
I know, i'm pretty mad, but i don'thave many options right now. I just want to be able to drive my car for 2 weeks without it stuffing up.
If the belts have just been done then F that. They must pay for new belts or at the least move the ones from the other motor. Lucky for you that it's under law. They don't really have a bargaining position.
You didn't tell us what motor it is. I.e. is it a TS, JTD or V6 and what size, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5?
In answer to your other questions,
If it's a 2.0 TS then:
Cam Belt Kit.
Balance Belt Kit.
Plus the usual service bits, like filters and Plugs. Check the spark plugs. I've seen a few cars around with the "Normal" cheep plugs in and not the factory spec Platinum plugs. Factory spec plugs only need changing every 100,000 KM and are costly.
I'd get them to do a sump service too. These means they drain the sump off all oil and sludge, not just what runs out the sump plug, just in case some BS has gotten in there while it's been hanging around. If you can, get a look at the oil that came out the "New" Motor. You're looking for water, froth or tiny metal bits that look like glitter. If there is any of the latter, reject the motor. Glitter means serious trouble. You could also have the coil packs tested and see if they will send the injectors for testing. Last thing you need after all this is poor performance due to weak spark of lean fuel mixture.
I know this is a boatload of stuff. I have trust issues, especially where incompetence has already been established.
thanks for the response. the motor is a 2.0 16V JTS
ok so on my demands i got:
-make sure that the spark plugs are genuine platinum plugs
-sump service (and keep the old oil for me)
-change the belts for me (with tensioners, idlers etc)
-warranty on the engine
would i need to change the pumps and balance belts too on the jts? i'm a bit confused. when they take out my old engine would they be removing my current belts and pump and putting in whatever is on the replacement engine?
also, what did you mean i'm covered by law in regards to belts? I'm in Australia. still curious to know what law covers it even if you're from a different country.
appreciate all your help!
