One of my wheels was damaged a while back, had it fixed, and finally replaced (for safety). It all depends on your driving style and how the roads are. My daily drive isn't that bad, and I have a CR-V to cope with the lousy roads.
Whether 17" is good or not, it's up to you. If you want to make the most from that V6, stick with 16", unless you find 17" wheels of similar weight. Many great-looking wheels for 156/147 are rather heavy, and those forged or lighter ones aren't as good looking. So you may have to compromise here.
But if your priority is to make the car looks as
as possible, then go for 17 or 18" wheels. The increased weight will affect the low end power a bit, and the different offset wheels will affect the steering feel also.
