I'm a newbie to this site and unfortunately not very mechanically minded so please bear with me over my long description of the issue my beloved 147 is experiencing.
I have a 52 reg, low mileage, 147 1.6 TS which I've owned for just over a year. Recently, on the ECU, it started showing ABS, EBD and ASR system failures on ignition turn along with the internal fan blowing air at start-up even when off as the system failures flashed as well as cutting the engine off on braking a couple of times.
I took it to a reputable Alfa dealer where it'd been fully serviced not too long before and they charged me just under £200 to diagnose it & change the battery as they said it was a dead battery cell issue. However, soon after that, the problem re-occured but less frequently along with the dreaded EMCS failure but no engine cut-off as before. I took it back to said dealer who plugged the ECU into the diagnostic program which brought about nothing although they acknowledged the issue as it happened while they had my car.
Unfortunately, they said it'd cost me alot for them to try and find the problem manually with no guarantees they could sort it so I just brought my car home.
The EMCS failure warning has miraculously stopped but practically each time I cold-start the car, the ABS, EBD and ASR system failures along with the internal fan coming on issues still occur.
I've noticed that if I jiggle the key while it's in the ignition at start-up, sometimes the warning lights flicker and the said issue doesn't happen...
So I ‘m now sharing my frustration with you fellow Alfa owners. If anyone has any idea what’s happening or how to try fix it, and is still reading this, please do let me know. I'm not very mechanical so appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks in advance.
