I`ve now had my first Alfa a whole 2 weeks tomorrow, and basically, I cannot stop ferkin grinning !!!
I absolutely LOVE this thing, mainly because of the engine, which is a combination of creamy torque, and a storming sound-track.
Honestly, in the last 8 years, I have owned all sorts, from an E46 M3, to Audi TT 3.2 V6, Focus ST, Astra VXR, Honda CTR (x2), BMW E90 330D`s, Mazda RX8, Golf GTI and R32, Scoobies; both the WRX PPP, and then an STI PPP.........the list goes on, and I can say, without any shadow of a doubt, that this engine in my GT has the best power/sound combination of ALL of them.
Yes, I know that some will doubt my sanity where the M3 is concerned, as surely, a 342bhp M3 engine has to be better than a 240bhp Alfa GT one, but for me personally, the answer would be "No", as the M3 didn`t feel as torquey as the GT does, and it certainly never sounded as good.
Then there`s the PPP`d STI Scoob...........okay, what a missile, pulled like a train, but the turbo-lag could be a pain now and again, and if you were caught in too high a gear for the revs in any given situation, then it was game over ! With the Alfa 3.2 V6 engine, this never happens, because it`s a beautifully smooth naturally-aspirated engine, so you`re ALWAYS in the right gear.
This one`ll make you laugh, but one of the most similar power characteristics from the cars I`ve had was from a Vauxhall Vectra VXR, the 280bhp version, which had very little turbo-lag, but went like a rocket when you caned it. Where it DID fall down though, was on sound, as it was just crap, and had nothing at all about it, much like it`s smaller brother, the Astra VXR.
Anybody else then, out there, who feels the same about the engine in their Alfa ?
