Bank Holiday Nightmare

What seemed to have been a good morning soon turned into a disastrous afternoon.

The plan was to drive to Blackburn to watch Arsenal away, made all the usual checks, had to top the oil up. Got about 10 miles down the road and thought 'sh*t', I havnt put the oil cap back on Low and behold the bonnet come up and oil everywhere. Ive cleaned up the majority and tried my best to get hold of one but to no avail. I dont think it would be safe to drive anyway, the amount of oil splattered about. Any suggestion of what to do in terms of getting it cleaned up?

I think everyone's done that before now!

As far as driving goes, top the oil up and use something to seal the filler before going anywhere. It should be easy enough to find a replacement. A scrapyard would be my first choice.

Cleaning it...dunno. Don't steam-clean it anyway. There was a thread on here not so long ago about how best to...

A cap from an aerosol sufficed as a temp oil cap when I lost mine - didn't lose any oil by the time I discovered it though - degreaser should work for cleaning up

If you'd got as fas as Blackburn I'd have been able to let you have an oil cap....but meantime anythin will do - even a pringle cap lid gaffer-taped over the hole - the oils not under any real pressure, just gets splashed about......

Same here - & I did 1,500 miles in France with it. . .

. . . driving to catch a ferry is NOT a good time to find that you've lost the oil cap!
