"Stalling/rumble" noise when ignition is off?

I have a rather worrying and odd problem with my 156 and do know what to do. It is also fairly hard to explain but will try my best.

When I switch my engine off I hear a "rumble/stalling" noise for a second or so. I guess this is normal as all engines make a "rumble" noise when switched off because of the engine components stopping suddenly. But this noise seems to be a bit more "rumbley" than usual, still I'm pretty sure this is normal.

However, 3 times it in the last 1500 miles it has done this "rumble/stalling" noise which keeps going on for about 5 seconds or more. Not sure how long it will go on for as I end up switching the engine back on as I'm scared something is about to break! The good news is my car is still under the 3 month warranty that my garage gave me, but I know if I just turn up and try and explain this problem they will be like wtf? Has anybody seen this before? I need to gather possible reasons for this so I can turn back to the garage with a bit more knowledge about this. Thanks

I had a rumbling noise on my car the other day after turning it off. I have just replaced the waterpump and thermostat, and there was still some air in the cooling system.

Take it back and get them to listen - I'm sure this is going to be impossible to diagnose over a forum

I remember when I had my Stilo, there was a strange rumble (well, a soft growl might be a better description) after switching-off, which lasted a few seconds. I eventually worked out that it was the Selespeed engaging the clutch. I'm sure my 156 probably makes a similar sound. Selespeed holds the clutch disengaged until you turn the engine off - then it 'releases' (engages) the clutch. Just a thought.
