156 Climate Control - Temperature Fluctuations
I have a problem with my 156 V6 Climate control which is really annoying.
With the controls set to
Outside temps between 0degC and 10degC
Once the engine reaches normal operating temp (80-90degC), the fan automatically powers up and blasts "very hot" air into the cabin for a few minutes. Then, without any changes to the controls, the air temperature changes to "very cold" for a few minutes. This behaviour then continues at random until I get completely fed up and switch the system to "0".
I tookthe car to an Alfa Specialist and they investigated the problem. The results of the investigations was:
- Change all temp sensors
- report that the heater flaps are stuck and not cycling correctly. The flaps are stuck open onto "face" direction.
They have recommended that the whole dashboard needs to come out and new flap motors are needed.
I am scheptical about this as I my logic tells me that the problem appears to be with a temperature sensor or controller.
I do not have detailed knowledge of the system but as an aeronautical engineer, I do have a certain amount of understanding of systems design.
Has anybody else had this problem?
If so, what was the fix?
