engine noise issue
I've a 156 jts late 2003 which is playing up....
under acceleration or driving up hill I'm getting a marble in a tin can rattling type noise. I've done a bit of web surfing this morning and Pinking would appear to be the most likely noise and from descriptions sounds pretty spot on. the car has been very slightly down on power and has been sounding rough - a little like a diesel prior to the noise.
I dropped it in to a a local indi garage in Canterbury to get the rough running checked recently and the only error code showing was from a Cat sensor, and there was some discussion of possible cat failing.
Question I have is am i likely to be on the right lines with the pinking (difficult, I know, to make a call without hearing the noise)... what is likely to be causing it?
Does the other info given indicate anything?
Car has done about 52k and had belt changed at around 35k. Runs spot on temperature wise at 90. Freely revs and happy to cruise at speed ;-) . It does like its oil but from forum discussions that's typical.
Any thoughts, stories of I get this too, etc all very gratefully received.
