I've just had it done on my 10/2003 20v, along with the water pump. They had been done (apparently) at 120k km (72k miles) in October 2007, but the mechanic who did it was a friend of the previous owner's. I decided not to take a chance and had it done again - car only has 150k km (about 93k miles) now, as it was up for sale for nearly a year, and the elapsed time was less than three years. Frankly, the best money I've spent on this car so far - 300 euros for the belt & water pump, my peace of mind is priceless. And it also sorted out the engine temperature issue.

Generally speaking, recommendations depend on the country. Official interval is 120k km / five years in the UK, but the thread at the top of the forum is a pretty good warning that may be too long. Just for comparison, in other countries it's 90k km / three years and in some it's even 60k km / two years. For a belt / water pump 3.5 years old, I'd say it's time to change. You'll spend the same money in a couple of months if nothing breaks and some more money if something does.

The way i look at it is a new cam belt kit, water pump and labour charge is always going to be less than the cost to repair a cam belt failure. But i'm not a gambling man.
