With the better weather coming I decided to recharge the air con as not a lot of cool air was forthcoming....
Anyway a quick test showed that none was present but a -ve pressure test held -1 bar, so we went ahead a tried to recharge the system... seconds later gas was seen escaping around the radiator / condensor area, so we stopped and had the rest evacuated. I did have dye put in, but as the unit was not filled fully before we spotted the leak, I doubt the dye will have reached the leak, but a UV light might show otherwise.
I have had a bit of search on this topic and not found a lot on:
1. Are they any likely candidates in that area, condensor, pipes etc.
2. How easy is it to change it? i.e. is it an bumper off job etc or a knuckle basher?
Its a GTA if that makes any difference (no room to swing a blue bottle in the engine bay, let alone a cat!), on a 52 plate.
I did have condensation in the winter, which changing the pollen filters (2 part behind glove box) did help with but I suspect having aircon would have helped then, when it was warm enough!
Thanks in advance.
