Selena/Selina Oil

Hey all, I am sure this has been debated before but I cannot seem to find a general consencis on this one, I am currently having my 1.8 ts engine rebuilt from my 156 SW following big end failure, I am spending a bit to have this engine fully rebuilt, new big ends, crank, conrods etd, and of course while I am at it, waterpump, variator, cam belt, tensioner, idler, head gaskets etc, once all this work is done, I really want to do all I can to look after te motor so the big question is what oil should I be running? does it need to be Selina/Selena oil (spelling?) is that the best, Is it true that that is the oil the engine is designed to run with or is that a marketing thing??? Help anyone?

Many uses selenia oil(factory recommentation) but there are also other good brands.
I used to run my Alfas with selenia but nowadays it's impossible to find this oil in Cyprus.(even from Alfa agend!).
I'm currently using the Q8 oil.

yup, agreed. any reputable 10w-40 oil will do....

brand of oil will never cause bearing failure, what you must do is stick to oil intervals regularly... and the filter.... and always with these engines that eat oil, check the level... low oil will not properly flow the bearing which are meant to run on oil not metal, and thus quick destruction.

There was a 25L drum of Q8 10w-40 semi synthetic on ebay the other day for £46 which is cheap..

I was tempted to buy it because it would suit either my Alfa, the Fiat or my dads Clio.
