Alfa Romeo 147

New Alfa driver. Intermittent loss of power.

I bought my Alfa 147 JTD 53 plate about 3 weeks ago, Its my first Alfa Romeo and i absolutely adore it.
I was driving it home the other night on the motorway doing 'normal' motorway speed when i suddenly experienced a dramatic loss in power. It was a struggle to keep it going, speed reduced to about 50mph and i had little to no acceleration. It was at night so i couldn't tell you if there was any black smoke coming out the back but there were no instrument warning lights. I pulled over, engine sounded fine, turned it off and started it, again sounded fine and no warning lights but still the massive loss in power across the rev range. It was still drivable but took an age to pick up speed.
About 10 minutes later as if out of no where a huge blast of power, like when you really plant your foot down, and everything returned to normal. Power, acceleration, everything.
Very strange.

Since then i've had no loss in power, but have noticed a slight hesitancy for a split second when doing those motorway speeds.
Any ideas?
