Just received the pulley through from ebSpares. I've noticed the rubber seal on the pulley, or damper, and to be honest, its in exactly the same condition as the one that is already fitted to the car, so maybe this isn't the problem with the car after all???
What the rear side of the pulley looks like (the one currently fitted to the car), I have no idea. I just guess I will have to get it fitted and go from there and hopefully it will cure the rattle I am getting. There are no signs of the pulley scuffing on the engine block, although it is running very close to the block itself!
I have noticed that when the car is idling, if I poke my head up underneath and look at the aux crank pulley, it is bouncing, although when the revs are raised the pulley becomes stable. I have also noticed that when in the wet, and accelerating from a standstill very quickly, I do get a squeal which sounds like the aux belt is slipping - despite recently replacing all tensioners and the belt itself. I also get an incredible metallic rattling noise when accelerating with the engine under load, in a high gear.
I disconnected the aux belt the other day, and the rattling noise was still there. I have read posts about this particular pulley the other day, regarding the V6s and JTDs having a high sprung automatic tensioner causing strain on the main aux pulley, so I am going to go with the advice on here and my own instinct and book it into the garage and get it done!
God this is really starting to annoy me now! Will keep you all posted on the results.
