Changing Climate Control Unit

I am going to change the climate control display in my 147 and have been reading the posts about this and the ECU reset, all seemed ok as I don't want to do an ECU reset etc. However I was out at garage paying bill as this is the guy who does all the work for me and who has been an Alfa owner for a few years now and he said when re-connecting battery to put key in ignition but in off position and have all the doors open as this sorts out the locking/alarm etc. Just wondering if anyone is aware of this.
