Selespeed gear flashes
I own an Alfa 147 2.0 Selespeed (2001) which has always had intermittent VDC and ABS alarms that havenít actually effected anything so far.
Recently I noticed the gear indicator on the dash sometimes fades/flashes.
Now I am getting selespeed fault messages and it often indicates the wrong gear. It can even tell me that Iím in reverse when actually in 1st!
I usually just left it in City but it seems easier to manage these quirky gear probs in manual. The probs generally occur in the low gears and take about 20 minutes of driving before they become apparent. It seems to me that its not sure what gear its in.
I look it to a gearbox expert who ran some diagnostics on it.
Came up with Brake Light Switch (C1340?) and Selector Switch (P1742).
We swapped the brake switch, no difference.
He suggests changing the gear selection lever (£130 + labour) but having read a few forum posts Iím not so sure.
I fiddled with the sensor plugs on the actuator and sprayed wd40 everywhere, tapped any relays I could find to no effect.
Now Iím tempted to change one of the sensors on the actuator (is that what the diagnostics refer to when it says selector switch?) but it looks a bit tricky to get to, any hot tips?
Also noticed some powdery residue from battery above the actuator and wondering if the battery is the problem, how can I check it (its only a year old).
Just looking for any advice/hot tips/lucky charms
