Well I've been down to see Lloyd at Clovertech in Wantz Road, Dagenham, he is my closest Alfa specialist,
He said it could be the clutch, but more likely the gearbox, He quoted £175 for a clutch, £280 for recon gearbox and £200 labour, saying that once the box is off it will be easy to see if the clutch is at fault or not. Are these prices reasonable?
Before I get any further I will ask him about bleeding it, normally this is something I would attempt myself but I have no time or space to do it at the moment,
But if the work does need to go ahead, and once the box is off it turns out not to be the clutch at fault, should I replace the clutch anyway? Car is at 59000 miles.
Also, Shop 4 Parts has this
at £135. Any idea whether this would be a quality part or cheap copy?
I was going to go to Autolusso for their opinion, as I hear they are recommended however I can't take it in on Saturday mornings as I work, and I spotted this on their website:
Petrol clutch Prices
156/147/GT Petrol engines 1.6 - 1.8 - 2.0 TS & JTS £475 inc VAT
Which seems very dear to me.
With regards the clutch biting point, as it is very near the top anyway, surely any higher and it will be biting all the time?
