confused on a little diy job

i bought an used alfa gt 2mths ago and i found out the car handle rubber is damaged so i did some little diy job on it

but here its my problem now ,
i want to do it on the handle too , i know i have to destory the rubber cover of the handle
,but how ? i use a stanley knife, a screw drive, to try to take it off, really , dont know how to start

The oval cover pulls 'straight out'. I have used a small jeweller's flat blade screw driver. Done very carefully (eg: a rag underneath the leverage point), negligble damage is done, and the plug can be reused.
