It's a generic name for the filter.

Firstly to clear up, when purchasing a filter from K&N or Pipercross or any place they are listed as panel filters, but yes it is a cylinder.
I removed the filter and put the orig back in, replaced the maf, 3 times, 1st cheap sh**, 2nd faulty, this one all new and good. i have replaced the throttlebody with a second hand unit from a low mileage car. I have also got replacement cats, all 3 for 110 s/hand inc sensors, (not fitted yet). The car ran well for 3 days i topped up the oil and it now idles at 1200+.
I have ordered a new temp sensor, in case the car thinks it needs to run on choke!!
I have put a flush in and will change the oil.
I have also noticed the brakes aren't too good at the moment, could it be related?
All help welcome. thanks
Unlike 'old' cars he idle isn't set by the amount of fuel (it's set via a feedback look with engine speed) ... have you tried doing a throttle reset??

Best thing you could now do, is get the car under diagnostics!
