Fantastic input - thanks everyone!
Alex, how can you not know the price? Over here, the dealer price is £700 EACH. I hope you are prepared for your bank account to be raped!
My specialist friend ordered them in from some non-dealer source in the UK I think - I did say I didn't want to pay more than about $400 each for them (£180) and he said that would be OK, "they were real cheap"... I guess we'll find out soon just how much I am paying!
I found the lights for £440 ea, still OTT. But would be cool.
Mmmm. I don't want this to eat into my Koni FSD/Eibach budget
Alex, I've done this conversion, including the self-leveling stuff.
I have a full part list of what you need, later today I'll post it for you.
Brilliant, thank you.
You will have to make (or have someone do it for you) the complete wiring for the leveling sensors.
Yes - I eventually got onto FIATForum ePer at 3AM Sunday morning UK time, and I managed to find the following parts:
46798888 Sending Unit (front)
60679378 Link rod (x2)
46781787 Sending Unit (rear)
60684650 Bracket (I think both those brackets were for the front)
60679193 Electric cable. This appears to be the cable for the level sensor.
60690152 Electric cable. Ditto.
The problem I can see is in finding the connectors to go onto the headlights themselves. This appears to be part of the whole engine bay cable harness - e.g. 60685654 Cable Harness M10 + 230, a stunning £574. My engine is M11 anyway, and it appears that option 230 never came with engine M11. So I'm expecting to modify the existing wiring and add some new wiring, and fit new connectors. I wonder where I can get those weird sort-of-round multipin connectors for the headlights.
I have done this sort of thing in the past when I fitted climate control air conditioning to a Lancia Thema that didn't already have it.
When everything is done you need to calibrate the xenon ecu with an Alfa Examiner, or else the leveling won't work.
No problems, thanks.
And in order to have the main beems work without interfering with thwe dipped beams you'll have to cut a wire and make a shunt in the stalker unit.
In Rob3rto's thread I have explained how to do it and why you need to do it.
This will be the 'dipped beam maintenance relay' that eLearn mentions. The funny thing is that the wiring for the standard halogen setup shows the same relay, but as you say, the stalk switch must be different. I'm sure I can work that out.
Cars for different markets often have different headlight wiring. I'm pretty certain that my ex-Singapore car has the dipped beam stay on when the main beam comes on, so I don't think I'll have a problem. I didn't realise that the inverter box on the headlight does all the logic work too - it just needs a power supply and then the existing wiring should provide the necessary input signals for dipped and main beam. I was fearing that they'd be an ECU somewhere else...
I have the lights working perfectly, but the leveling isn't working yet, I'm still waiting to get the xenon ecu calibrated to the new sensors. I went to the dealers but the guy didn't knew how to do it and wasn't willing to try a bit...
Isn't that ANNOYING...
You just know they have formal training in the systems, yet you could find it yourself if only they'd just let you use the machine. Fortunately I have friends that will.
I guess you have run a wire all the way back from the headlight to the OBD connector?
Thanks again for your help and I'm off to read all about it in that other thread now.
