156 2.4JTD (2000 reg) hard / non start and P0606 DTC
im new to the forum and have a problem with my 156.
Basically its just deceided to become extremely hard top start, just cranks overe and over and eventulayy fires to life.
I have made some progress.....
Recently its had new glow plugs, cam sensor and timing belt to confimr its timed OK< all for this problem.
Prior to this it had a new alternator fitted and drive belt tensioner around 1 month ago.
To diagnose this fault so far this weekend I've done
injector leak off test - all ok
Scoped cam and crank sensors - all ok and in synch (note since new cam sensor fitted the previous recorded cam sensor fault has not appeared again).
Checked EGR valve, working fine and closing off ok.
Using the Fiatecu scan data I can see the fuel pressure is good as is any other
data I can see such as air mass, crank/rpm signal, coolant and air temp
etc...... I even have engine speed signal during cranking when it wont start.
I've also done a full pin check with both a scope and multi meter of the ECU and all appears to be good, including grounds and power supplies.
What I have noticed is that when the car does start at all, instead of a single 7 second burst, the fuel pump relay chatters repeatedly for about 5 to 10 seconds and glow plug light does not come on, and most times the immobiliser "code" light stays illuminated. The car will then just crank and crank.
Cycle the ignition a few times and eventually the fuel pump, glow plug light and "code" light will all work fine, car cranks for about 10-15 seconds and engine starts.
I also get the following code set on a regular basis in the ECU:
P0606 ECU faulty (6) / ECM fault?
I've checked the immobiliser coil and control unit and connections everything looks good as are all fuses. The coil resistance is within specx of 8hms
My guess now is I've either got an ECU fault or a problem with either the key or immobiliser unit.
I don't have the bypass code for the immobiliser to override it by the manual overide process so can tell any more?
The ECU details are:
ISO code FD86869876
Fiat drawing number 46774779
Hardware number 0281010022
Hardware version 00
Software number 1037352583
Software version 0000
Homlogation number 5B932
ECU programme date 04-03-2000
Not sure with all of this you can help me at all?
I'm guessing also the ECU is coded so cannot be swapped from donor car, or replaced with a 2nd hand one etc... That is without the immob unit and keys, or can they be fitted individually and reprogrammed by a dealer?
Any further advice on the fault code would be good. As you can see I've been busy.......
Any help greatly appreciated.
