Still cannot trace this noise!!!
OK I still have this terrible "scraping/rattling" noise coming from the engine bay of my V6!
It only occurs when the engine is under load, for example, accelerating in 6th gear at around 40mph. I have also noticed that if I accelerate hard in 1st and 2nd gear, it sounds as if the auxillary belt is slipping and squeeling. The noise cannot be heard at idle, or when revved - it can only be heard when the engine is underload, more so in the lower revs.
The strangest thing is, that the noise is cut by about 75% when I am driving in the wet. So it's as if the water from the road is spraying up and lubricating perhaps a worn bearing somewhere?
I have replaced the auxillary drivebelt and all tensioners recently. This has made zero difference.
If anyone has an idea what this could be then please, any advice is greatly appreciated as the noise is driving me mad. It's nothing to do with loose heatshields on the exhaust or a loose undertray, or loose engine mounts etc, I am 99.99% sure that this is coming from the auxillary belt run.
It's also worth noting that by putting maximum load on the belt (ie, all lights, air con, heated rear screen etc etc) makes no difference to the noise at all!
