Paging the MAF'isti!
I'm just hoping for the AO sanity check.
Symptoms on a 20v 2.4 JTD are those that I read in many of the MAF threads: Low rev power-loss with a tendency to stall if "normal" throttle is applied to move off. More pronounced boost at 500-1000rpm higher than "normal". In fact, everything seems to require higher revs than normal, cruising at 60 in sixth, for example.
Disconnecting the MAF brings thing nearer to normal but with more smoke when boost kicks in. So disconnection has affected the outcome therefore must be MAF, right?
The only reason I ask the gallery is just because the problem *seemed* to coincide with a flat(ish) battery start requiring a jump with one of those useful little compressor/battery-booster/torchy things. It was Optimated up to "green" and sits at 12.5v under ignition-off load which I understand is no indication of battery health.
I've read how sensitive these beasties are to a dying battery. The jumped-start reported an ABS failure that has not recurred after full charge and I'm not sure it was actually a failure although I didn't test it.
It's about due a battery but it's about due a MAF, too from all the posts I've read.
I haven't cleaned the sensor - no security-torx drivers (must get me some of those!) - and I haven't done an ECU reset - too scared of lunching the MAF completely as reported by another poster.
So what does the Great and Good think? MAF, battery or both? ECU reset worth a shot?
