Help rear window regulators

Ihave a 156 but both rear windows are inactive having investigated the motors work but the cable has snapped i take it you need to replace the whole lot because changing the cable would be too easy

As far as i understand it, once the wire is broken, or any part of the regulator for that matter, you need to replace the whole thing!
May be worth checking salvage yards or on-line to source a second hand one. New regulators can cost!
