147 - Electrical Gremlins
My Mrs's 147 has developed some rather odd electrical gremlins. First thing it will start and seem fine for a minute or two. Then the dash will go dim and the radio and electric windows (and probably a whole bunch of other stuff) will stop working. Headlights, indicators, windscreen wipers and selespeed gearbox seem unaffected and the engine doesn't stall or throw up an EML.
Then the strangest thing.... If you switch the engine off, it won't restart. The starter tries to go, but its as if there isn't enough juice in the battery to do the job. The whole car behaves as if the battery is flat. Leave it for an hour or so and it will start but has the same problems as above again.
My first thought was a lose earth, but I've checked the usual suspects under the bonnet and can't find a problem and besides a lose earth I would expect to send the ECU and selespeed into a fritz but they seem unaffected.
I haven't tried changing the battery yet but will tomorrow, but I don't think its that. Does anyone know if the cabin stuff shares an earth with the starter motor and if so where it is? Any other ideas?
