well therein lies the quandry. The Merc cost 60-70 to fill up, drive to london, fill up, drive around, fill up, drive home, fill up.
The Alfa I fill it up, and get 550 miles from a tank most of the time. So was saving buckets. The Merc wasn't any less expensive to maintain, infact more for most things - so cost savings were substantial
Now I am spending a load on this Alfa I am losing what I saved rapidly - not far off a Cam belt.. and whatever else goes wrong. Get this stuff done now and chop it in - - then I won't lose out too much other than the loss on purchase price against value now. Keep it from now and it IS going to cost more money to keep well maintained, and while I know any car will cost to keep maintained, I don't have the time or resource to lie under the car most weekends! I can get another diesel (possibly Alfa I really don't mind - just newer) and not have to maintain as much. Swings, and I might add.. Roundabouts.
