Head Gasket advice needed.
Need some head gasket advice chaps
I brought a 1.8TS as spares or repairs via Ebay, upon collection the car is far to good to break so this weekend I got my mechanic friend to have a look. I know that it overheated due to it losing water through a hole in a radiator and it was a toss up between a replacement engine or head gasket. It would not start on the key to which the Mechanic thought was down to lack of compression, so we tow started it which it fired up fine. The oil is clean with no traces of water so the chances are that it has blown the gasket between a cylinder and coolant. He has suggested getting a radiator and then get it sniff tested. The good news is there is no rattle from the bottom of the engine and apart from it being a bit rattly up the top there is no miss-fire. The engine is on 61K has recently had the cam belt done including variator (10K ago).
So now to the advice part and that’s parts, I will get a new cam belt but will I need head bolts?
Also I have found a head gasket set on Ebay for £37.70 + £7 P+P (310118810738) can anybody see why I should not but it, it seems to be £15 cheaper than the next expensive one and cheaper then ones from Eurocar parts or any other supplier.
