I'd value any opinions on this...
My pride and joy, an 05 plate GT JTD.
Last week had oil leak fixed from corroded oil filter feed and return pipes. Since the car was on nearly 59k miles I got the whole 60k service done at the same time too (I had been topping up the oil when it was leaking and it never went below half).
Getting the car back it smelt slightly of oil smoke inside, especially when stationary. Thinking it was the remnants of the leak burning off, I carried on using the car. Starting it this evening, 85 miles and 6 days after the service, the smell came back very quickly - pretty acrid too. Also a new 'rattle' which came to sound like a faint mis-fire. Then noticed when stopped at lights some slight oil (blueish) smoke from under the bonnet, drivers side. Drove home very gingerly, cabin now smelling awful (fan off, windows down, still nearly asphxyiated when I got back!). Although I was nursing it home, seemed to drive OK, no warning lights, normal water temp, idled and pulled smoothly.
Got back and lifted the bonnet. Oil level fine, fluids all seem fine but smoke from beneath the engine cover when running (not when switched off) and the noise that could be a slight misfire. Didn't investigate further but spoke to the (very reputable) garage who did the service- said they'll take the car back tomorrow.
So - question 1. Any ideas what's gone wrong?
And question 2. Should I chance driving it the 6 miles or so to the garage tomorrow, or swallow my pride, use my breakdown cover and get a tow?
Any help welcomed, she's been a really reliable car until recently!
