156 rear suspension arm breakage

Hi, first post so just learning.

I have a y reg 156 Sportswagon, low miles and fsh. At the weekend I was driving along quietly, honest, when I had the rearmost back left suspension arm shear/break on me (the longer one, behind the axle line). I didn't/hadn't hit a pothole or anything and the road was smooth where it happened. Managed to limp it to my usual garage who have replaced the part. They spoke with Alfa who say they've never heard of this problem. Thought I'd post this for information anyway.
I thought, on looking at the broken arm, that there was signs of a crack that had corrosion on it at one end of the otherwise clean break...my garage weren't so sure...but they did a visual check on the other arms anyway. I mention just in case anyone else out there wants to just give theirs a quick visual check.
