yep, cleaning the maf is a temp fix at best.
the way the maf works is that it has an element in it which is heated, as air passes over this heated element obviously it cools. the maf is set to keep this element at an exact and certain temperature, the way it measures the air is the amount of current it takes to keep the element at that temperature. obviously the more air you drawing through the faster it cools the element, so the harder it has to work to keep it heated up, so higher current means more air is going passed it.
of course over time this breaks down and becomes less effective, so you loose power.
cleaning it will remove some surface contaminents and oils on the element and so make it a little more effective and accurate but ultimately its going to need replacing.
as with all alfa electric components make sure its genuine bosch or it wont work properly and wont last 2 minutes.
