I [heart] Smaky!

Smaky may be 'out of town', but he's still the guy to call on with a problem. Every problem I've thrown his way, his answer has been right on the money first time, every time.

Just thought I'd say a public 'thanks' to him.

He's not said. I get the feeling he'll stick to the other forum from now on though.

I believe it was only a temporary measure due to not following the community rules. I think that is due to be lifted very soon and it will then be his choice should he wish to return

I have an Idea..

Maybe we could all club together and pay for him to become an authorised Trader.

That way people would get technical help and, admin will be happy.

It would be a considerable loss to the AO Forum if we lose his input .

Beside iainFm who else has offerred the same level of assistance( On Selespeeds) and support during SMAKY time of banishment?
SMAKY has consistantly in the past given superb support to Selespeed owners and avoided the usual "You need a new actuator" or more meaningfully give me £1200 from the professionals.
If he does move to the "Alternative Alfa Forum " all that probably/will happen more Selespeed queries will be directed his way and members may move.

When is his banishment ending? Lets hope he comes back!!

Unfortunately he did not choose to abide by the rules. That is why he received a temporary ban. He also had a number of warnings before so.

Despite the usefulness of his information to many on AO, he broke rules constantly, and ignored polite requests/warnings not too in future.

I don't know the guy, but I really enjoyed reading his contributions, especially those relating to his 'experiment' on how long a cam-belt could last before it expired.

I sort of agree, except I think Ian could donate it. He gives (gave) far more technical help than any of the other traders who's advice just tends to be either "bring it in and we will fix it " or so vague as to leave the posters no closer to being able to fix the problem themselves. We all prefer a professional opinion from someone who has done these jobs many times to having to wade through post after post of speculation, guesswork and regurgitated internet myth.

Off topic, why do some get loads of warnings and a yellow card and others get loads of warnings and then a straight red?

Only spammers (cheap iPhones & DVD downloads) go straight Red.

Others, as in the person subject to this thread got stacks of friendly advice, unofficial warnings then formal infractions (totting up) due to continual blatant disregard for AO rules

I think there is more to being an authorised trader than what you are all referring to.
I could be wrong here, but I thought you needed public liability insurance and to be a registered business etc...

Anyhow lets not turn this into another Smaky was right Smaky was wrong thread. We have enough of them floating around on here

Wrong forum for this sort of thing I know, but a few posts up there is the implication that Smakey is on a yellow (his second one??). Others, such as Jamz2k, have a public beef that although he earned enough infractions for a yellow he got a straight red instead. Is that possible or is he only telling half the story?

Not a GT

Yellow cards = official warnings. Red cards = infraction points.

Smaky received enough red cards over a period of time to get a temporary ban.
James went off the rails and received a number of red cards in one go and self-destructed.
