Position and function of egr changed between early and later models. My 1999's one is at the front but the 2001 one is at the back top to the right. The later models have ecu connections, water cooled inputs, so are more involved in "how it works" while the earlier ones are more mechanical. Again there's posts on here explaining the differences.
Early ones also are easier to change stat (because of water cooling bit), if that needs done.
Advise also getting eLearn cd as there's not a Haynes manual. Unless you're willing to shell out £200 for printed manual, it's a good way to check out component location, etc. etc.
