Motor Control System Failure, ABS, VDC, Selespeed: HELP!!!
Firstly let me apologise for this version of war and peace but I am at a complete loss!!!!!
I purchased a retro fit cruise control for my 52 plate 156 sportwagon last week, I was over the moon as this is a good option and seemed straight forward.
I made a brew and after reading through the numerous threads on retro fitting of this mod I set outside with tools at the ready to fit the CC.
After fitting the cruise control and getting the fiddly screw into the rear of the stalk it was time to try it out. I switched the ignition on, turned the cruise to on to ensure the green light came on and my world fell apart.
As soon as the engine kicked into life I was greeted with the MCSF, VDC, ABS and selespeed gearbox all telling me that there was an issue.
I immediately turned the car off, let my heart rate come back to normal and tried again, no joy it was the same again. I immediately came into the house and logged back into the forum to see who had similar issues. There are lots of threads saying lots of potential problems and remedies which has now got me recounting everything I did that day of fitting the cruise control.
My 156 has been sitting around for a few weeks and this could have led to the battery not being at its best, but I had the car out for a 20 mile run just two days before and all was fine. I have since recharged the battery and I am still in the same sticky situation. I knew about the battery/voltage issues as I had the VDC warning for several days after i bought the car a year ago and changed it after seeing the problem by fellow alfas on here. I moved the steering column to fit the CC and this may also have upset some of the sensors, although I was a careful as I could be.
I now have the following faults:
1. Selespeed gearbox light flashing and only engages 1, 2 & R and it judders at take off and on changes. The pump seems to activate as usual on opening the door and when pushing the gear lever through trying to get gears, I took it for a drive and it will only get as far as second gear.
I have topped up the selespeed oil as it was not at Max.
2. MCSF warning light comes on and stays on.
3. ABS light comes on and stays on.
4. VDC failure light comes on and stays on.
I have disconnected the battery to try the ECU reset and all is still the same.
I have tried to download the FiatScan ECU software and I cannot download as it tells me there is issues there also. On reading this back I seem like a real lucky Eddie case!!!!!!
I would be extremely grateful for any advice/assistance/help that anyone could give me as I am at my wits end and I am starting to seriously consider the final countdown to my beautiful 156 remaining in my family due to the amount of money some indies have sucked from me over the past few months to remedy some simple issues.
