oil pressure warning light and engine noise

Hi all,

my oil pressure warning light has started to come on occasionally and then turn off straight away. The oil level is at the max mark so its not that.

I also get a funny wurring(?) noise from the engine which lasts a couple of seconds when im slowing down for a junction and put my foot on the clutch and brake slightly.

Other than this the car drives fine.
Im guessing these things maybe linked.

Im worried that if i keep driving it something really bad is going to happen!!
Appreciate any help.

Oil pressure switches can go faulty, but you need to make sure it's the switch and not the pressure itself (or it will be bad!).

Whirring noise sounds like it could be the release bearing.

It may be a faulty switch, but you need to get a pressure gauge connected, to check the true oil pressure. If the light is correct, and you keep driving the car, then it will be very, very bad.

Had this happen on our 147. Apparently it is a common problem caused by dirt on the sensor. However as per Mike69 post, get the oil pressure checked and if its ok change out the sensor. Also if you are doing short town journeys in the car change the oil twice a year. I noticed on ours that if you left it for a year the oil really thinned down, which is not good if you intend to keep the car.
