We had the same, problem jerky first gear takeoff when warm. Having read all the postings I had a go at the EV1. Pulled the unit out, quite a simple job, gave it a thorough clean and replaced the O rings. They cost $1 (64p) all up fitted! Bought a litre of fully synthetic Dex 6 oil for $17 - Nulon, an Aussie Brand, the Alfa dealer quoted $60 a litre for Selenia - and reassembled. To bleed it properly I had to power the system up by using my jumper cables because obviously you need the battery out to get at the bleed screw. The pressure at the bleed screw, because of the relative size of the hole isn't that great and certainly nothing to be concerned about. I might add that I had tried bleeding it by powering up then quickly removing the battery but the problem (jerkiness) was still there though much reduced in terms of time to onset. Since the second bleeding it has, so far, been great, problem solved apparently. If your doing it for the first time you need to remove the battery box, there are 3 bolts to the guard and one at the front. The EV1 is located below it and towards the firewall. The electrical connector is marked EV1 making it easy to find (I spent about 10 minutes wondering which one it was till I spotted the marking DOH!) I didn't do any recalibrating mainly because I don't have a diag tool. The whole job is quite simple with the fiddliest bit being to get the battery out.
I don't think there is anything special about the O ring size. I took the valve and old O rings to a local supplier of such things, he disappeared out the back for about 2 minutes and came back with them fitted and as I said $1 all up.
