2.0 TS Head Gasket - Sealant Required?


Does anyone know if Alfa recommnend if gasket sealant should be used on headgaskets or not?

Its not normal to use sealant these days especially with metal gaskets.

Definitely not on the head gasket, most other gaskets don't need it either but shouldn't do any harm like using it on the head gasket itself (the last thing you need is excess goo blocking oil and waterways).

No sealant, just perfectly clean all the surfaces. It must not come in contact with oil. And unpack the head gasket just before the installation. Its made of material that hardens when in contact with air. At least on V6, I am not sure if TS is the same type.

If you're changing the cam cover gasket too, don't use sealant on that, either.

This has a ribbed underside that is designed to compress onto the top face of the head casting to make it oil-tight. I've seen ones with bad leaks simply because sealant has been used and has stopped the gasket ribbing doing its job.
